Anahata Neuman is passionate about providing the best care for her clients, with ethical and trauma-informed perspectives at the forefront of her clinical practice. Her distinct gift of humor and her dedication to helping people make sense of their difficult experiences form the foundation of her therapeutic relationships.
The human experience is a complex interplay of emotions, learning, beliefs, and social interactions, all centered around the construct of perception.
Anahata’s curiosity about perception began later in her academic journey than one might expect. In graduate school, she was initially interested in what behaviors are considered "eccentric" and what prompts these expressions of individual traits. Her academic advisor guided her to choose a topic with diagnostic criteria, given her enrollment in a doctorate program in Clinical Psychology. This led to her focus on Schizotypal Personality.
Graduate school provided Anahata with the opportunity to creatively explore her theories about individuals described as quirky and investigate any positive correlations between this personality organization and traits such as sensitivity and empathy. Her therapeutic style evolved through challenging positions in the mental health field, including a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. Working in residential mental health facilities, she gained insights into the impact of the system of care on clients and their families.
Anahata also has a profound passion for art and creativity, particularly in working with individuals whose minds, while sometimes hard to live with, produce some of the most innovative and extraordinary work. She believes that the creative process can be a powerful therapeutic tool, allowing clients to express themselves in unique and meaningful ways. This passion for creativity and art informs her therapeutic approach, fostering an environment where clients can explore and harness their creative potential as part of their healing journey.
