Anahata Neuman has a passion for providing the best care for her clients. Ethical and trauma-informed perspectives are at the forefront of her clinical practice. Her distinct gift of humor and love for helping people make sense of miserable experiences is what creates the foundation of her therapeutic relationships.
The human experience is comprised of feeling emotions, learning (whether we are aware of it or not), holding beliefs, and interacting with others. At the center of all of these components is the construct of perception.
My curiosity about perception began farther into my studies than one might expect. I set out in graduate school with interest in what behaviors would be considered "eccentric" and what might prompt those expressions of individualistic traits in the first place. My academic advisor informed me that I would need to choose a topic with "diagnostic criteria" since I was, after all, enrolled in a doctorate program in Clinical Psychology. And so began my focus on Schizotypal Personality.
My time in graduate school allowed me to creatively investigate my theories about people who are described as quirky and research if there was any way to show a positive correlation with this personality organization and being sensitive and empathic. My style as a therapist evolved by taking on challenging positions in the field of mental health. I have worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. My experience working in residential mental health facilities taught me about the impact of the system of care on clients and their families.
