I am here to help. If you think you might like some support in making sense of your experiences (hospitalizations, taking time off school, losing friends), I am here.
My goal is to provide an incredibly safe and nurturing therapeutic environment for you to explore your next steps and help turn an often lonely and confusing time into a path of healing.
Therapy focuses on learning to communicate with your doctors so that your needs are met safely without increasing your distress. We will work together and learn to identify the signs that indicate you might feel like giving up. Our sessions will be about practicing adaptive social skills so you can keep and strengthen the friendships you already have.
Through engagement in therapy, you will get support by taking care of yourself from an empowered and informed position. Treatment will reduce the number of interruptions in your school progress or reduce missed work opportunities. You will also learn how to navigate complex family relationships that have become strained.
I am currently discussing collaboration with UCSC and CAPS services to provide high quality and informed care for students experiencing extreme states.
An emerging peer-led support group for young people who have had experiences with extreme states (psychosis) and recovery is in the works. Please contact Anahata to get involved.
These warning signs may signal early psychosis:
• Hearing, seeing, tasting or believing things that others don’t
• Suspiciousness or extreme uneasiness with others
• Persistent, unusual thoughts or beliefs
• Strong and inappropriate emotions or no emotions at all
• Withdrawing from family or friends
• A sudden decline in self-care
• Trouble thinking clearly or concentrating
If you or someone you know is experiencing these warning signs, please contact Anahata and we can discuss a helpful intervention. Early action keeps young lives on track.
